1949

COVONIA Bronchial Balsam first formulated and produced in Huddersfield by Yorkshire chemist, S.T. Shaw of Golcar, with traditional, high quality ingredients (and good old Yorkshire clout).

1950's

As sales of his "magical formula" increased, those nice people at local company Thornton & Ross were asked to prepare and pack it for Mr Shaw.

1968

Mr Shaw eventually sold the COVONIA brand name to Thornton & Ross, who first licensed the formulation following the Medicines Act in 1968.

Always a brand to offer good value, RRP was the princely sum of 3 shillings!

1970's

Still a traditional brand.

COVONIA's popularity continued to grow steadily throughout the early 1970's, particularly amongst those people looking for a strong formula with a rapid impact.

1980 & 90's

COVONIA continues to do well and the bottle evolves, although even in the mid 1990's it's still very much a traditional cough brand.

1997

The first new COVONIA product for some 50 years - COVONIA Expectorant, Menthalated Cough Mixture for chesty coughs. The launch of COVONIA Expectorant meant that the brand now had both dry and chesty options that you could actually FEEL working.

1998

Good news for night-time coughers - COVONIA Night Time Formula launched. Stan the Bull charges into pharmacies for the first time.

1999

All change for the COVONIA brand
as Stan the Bull charges onto TV screens.

2001

Another exciting new product launch -
COVONIA Throat Spray brings clout to sore throats.

2002

NEW AWARD WINNING TV and press ads for throat spray and cough.

2003

Not one but two new COVONIAs -

Covonia Mentholated Cough Mixture 300ml
Covonia Vapour Drops for congestion with 'VAPOWER'

2004

COVONIA Cold & Flu Formula launched to tackle all 5 main symptoms of colds and flu.

2005

COVONIA voted one of Britain's UK's most trusted brands by Reader's Digest.

2006

Launch of 50ml handy size pack - Mentholated Cough Mixture.
